Y: The Last Man series is in development at FX
Last year, we reported that the screen rights to the comic series Y: The Last Man had fully reverted back to creators Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra and that a planned feature film was no longer in development. Now, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that a television adaptation of the critically-acclaimed comic is in development at FX with creator Brian K. Vaughn set to develop it for TV with a to-be-determined writer. The search is underway for a director to help shepherd the Y: The Last Man series.
Y: The Last Man tells the story of Yorick Brown, a young man who, along with his Capuchin monkey, Ampersand, somehow survives a catastrophic event that kills off every living creature with a Y chromosome. Left in a world of only women, Yorick teams with a government operative, 355, to try and uncover the truth about the plague and why he and he alone made it through alive. The series ran for 60 issues from 2002 to 2008.
Creator Brian K. Vaughan is no stranger to working in the realm of comics and TV, having previously worked as a writer on LOST and showrunning the adaptation of Stephen King’s Under the Dome on CBS. Vaughan currently pens the comics “Saga,” “We Stand on Guard,” and “Paper Girls.”
A number of other attempts at adapting the series have been attempted, previously with director D.J. Caruso (Disturbia) attached in 2007 and another with director Dan Trachtenberg attached in 2013.
