John Malkovich has joined the cast of the currently filming comic-con heist comedy Supercon
With cameras rolling in New Orleans, Louisiana on Supercon, Gold Star Films and Momentum Productions today confirmed that they have added two-time Academy Award nominee John Malkovich (In the Line of Fire, Places in the Heart) to the ensemble cast of the comedy heist feature. Malkovich joins a Supercon cast that currently includes Mike Epps (The Hangover, Uncle Buck), Maggie Grace (Taken, LOST), Russell Peters (Source Code, Chef), Clancy Brown (Warcraft, Hail, Caesar) and CariDee English (America’s Next Top Model).
Supercon, directed by Zak Knutson and scripted by Knutson and Andrew Sipes, follows a group of washed up television stars and comic book artists who make their living attending conventions. Down on their luck, the rag tag team hashes a plot to rob the convention and bring justice to a crooked promoter and an overbearing former TV icon.
John Malkovich is no stranger to comic books. He starred in the Wildstorm comic book adaptations RED and RED 2 as well as the DC Comics movie Jonah Hex. Malkovich was also attached to Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4, although the Sony Pictures franchise sequel never made it to production as the decision was made to instead reboot the franchise with Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man. Malkovich would have played Adrian Toomes, the supervillain also known as the Vulture. The Vulture is now set to make his big screen debut in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming with Academy Award nominee Michael Keaton (Batman, Birdman) in the Toomes role. You can take a glimpse at what might have been with this collection of Spider-Man 4 storyboards.
Supercon is being produced by Gold Star Films’ Joey Tufaro and Todd Trosclair and Momentum Productions’ Susan Gorrell and Maria J. McDonald.
