“It’s an old school gothic horror movie”
Last night, the New Beverly hosted a double feature bill of John Landis’ classic An American Werewolf In London along with the documentary Beware The Moon: Remembering An American Werewolf In London.
On hand for the Q & A session was legendary FX artist Rick Baker and once questions went to the audience, the subject of Universal’s The Wolfman was literally the first thing asked about.
“Actually, it was really interesting because being in London again doing another Wolfman movie, we did some re-shoots fairly recently and I stayed in Richmond where we stayed when we were filming An American Werewolf In London,” he said. “It basically hasn’t changed that much. It looks almost exactly the same as when we were there. I walked by and thought ‘This is the flat where I stayed’ and that was our workshop! Now it’s an old age home. This is that pub where we got drunk that one night and I got sick. It was really a weird experience to be there almost 30 years later doing another Wolfman movie, only this one with a much bigger budget and was nowhere near as organized. Seriously, I actually think the new Wolfman is going to be really cool. I’m serious. It was hell to make and it was very difficult, but I think it’s going to be really neat. I saw an earlier version of it and I was quite excited by it. It’s an old school gothic horror movie, which is what got me in the business.”
The new update of the classic Universal monster was helmed by director Joe Johnston from a script by Andrew Kevin Walker and David Self. Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt and Hugo Weaving star.
It hits theaters on February 12th.
