But fret not fellow collectors, the Marvel Legends line is returning and thank the gods it is, because DC Direct has been cleaning house with their 6 figures. It’s about time Marvel got back into the game.
This first line features Steve Rogers, Iron Man, Thor, Constrictor, Klaw, Hope Summers, and the subject of today’s review Ghost Rider. If you saw the new Ghost Rider film this weekend and have bad taste in your mouth like so many others, but still have an affection for the rider this figure just might be the medicine you need.
Just looking at the figure you can see they were going for the modern Ghost Rider. Just lookin at his outfit he looks he’s stepped out of a Death Metal video, which isn’t entirely a bad thing as far as Ghost Rider is concerned. I like the way that the flames are detailed on him. The shoulder pieces are a nice touch but specifically on his skull. His fire is positioned in a way that it’s almost like real fire burning, with sections of the skull visible as the flames dance across his head . They also stick out like the true tip of a fire. I also have no worries that the flames will fall or break off him, they’re pretty sturdy.
The sculpt on his skull is a nice touch. The way the eye sockets and teeth are positioned it puts the look of a menacing smile on his face, makes him really expresses his bad ass recklessness, which is saying a lot that a skull is able to articulate proper emotion.
As far as the rest of his body is concerned his boots and boots and gloves look pretty wicked. Almost a little too GWAR for my taste but I think the whole outfit fits well with the character’s style. The chains are also well made, they’re a firm plastic so they hug to the figure well but aren’t so rigid that they don’t move.
The paint job is pretty stellar, too. All the different shades of black and gray across his entire suit flow well and none of them seem sloppy or rushed. The shoulder pads too have a highlighted area around the flames almost like the reflection of the fire is shining off them, a very cool detail.
The toy isn’t without it’s faults, the main one being no accessories! We honestly couldn’t get a chain whip, a bike handle or even some fire balls or something? It’s kind of a bummer that he has to just stand there by himself without weapons but damn he looks cool anyway, so I guess no accessories isn’t entirely a buzz kill. The other big fault, the price tag. With tax you’re looking at almost $20 for the big guy. Now, in terms of quality and a general cool toy, it’s worth about that much. But for a casual buyer that just wants a cool toy, might want to sit this one out.
I’m really impressed with this figure. It comes regularly with blue flames with an orange flame variant (I was lucky enough to find the orange one) but after having this guy staring at me all day and how cool it looks I’d like to find that blue flame figure, too.
The new Marvel Legends line should be available at local Toys ‘ R Us stores and maybe comic shops, rumor is that larger stores like Target and Wal-Mart will have them around the end of the month.
