Matt Ryan (Criminal Minds) will play John Constantine for director Neil Marshall who is helming the pilot episode. According to THR, the show “centers on master of the occult John Constantine, who struggles with his faith as he is haunted by the sins of his past and is suddenly thrust into the role of defending humanity from the gathering forces of darkness.”
David Goyer is executive producing and Dexter‘s Daniel Cerone is writing the script.
Created by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette and John Totleben, John Constantine, a roguish magician/detective/conman, first appeared during the author’s run on “Swamp Thing” in 1985, receiving his own series, “Hellblazer,” under DC’s Vertigo imprint in 1988.That book ran for 300 issues before it was relaunched in DC’s “New 52” continuity as “Constantine” with a younger take on the antihero.
Keanu Reeves previously played the character on the big screen in Warner Bros.’ 2005 release Constantine, which was directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games films).
