Variety is reporting that Nicolas Winding Refn’s LA-based horror thriller The Neon Demon has snagged a quartet of big names, including Keanu Reeves, Christina Hendricks, Jena Malone and Bella Heathcote to join the already-announced Elle Fanning and Abbey Lee.
Reeves is currently riding the wave of a career resurgence after the surprise success of John Wick and represents the only male presence in a film that is so far dominated by women. He will next star in Eli Roth’s Knock Knock, which premiered at Sundance and was picked up by Lionsgate.
This is not the first Refn rodeo for Hendricks, having played a pivotal role in his 2011 hit Drive, and she also stars in the upcoming Lost River directed by that film’s lead, Ryan Gosling.
Malone will next be seen reprising her role as Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, and is rumored to be playing Robin/Carrie Kelley in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Although Heathcote’s mainstream career got off to a rocky start with the dud Dark Shadows, she has several promising roles in two other horror films, including the lead in The Curse of Downers Grove as well as playing Jane Bennet in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
Refn co-wrote the screenplay for The Neon Demon with newcomer Mary Laws and plans to shoot this March for a 2016 release.
