Jeremy Saulnier, who last year took many by storm with affecting American revenge film Blue Ruin, returns this year with Green Room. The newly-premiered Cannes selection is a most anticipated title, amounting to a punks vs. skins thriller with Patrick Stewart as the leader of a gang of neo-Nazis. Word out of Cannes is that its tremendous and tremendously violent. To ease the wait until the rest of the world gets to see it then, a very tough talking clip has come online.
Having just premiered in the Director’s Fortnight section of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, Green Room sees a young punk rock band find themselves trapped in a secluded venue after stumbling upon a horrific act of violence. There, they fight for their lives against a gang of white power skinheads intent on eliminating all witnesses. The aforementioned Stewart stars alongside Anton Yelchin, Alia Shawkat, Imogen Poots, Joe Cole and Callum Turner.
Blue Ruin is absolutely terrific, and Green Room already looks and sounds like an essential 2015 watch.
