It looks like Sacha Baron Cohen is doubling down on his brand of uniquely outrageous comedy as Screen Daily reports that the Borat and Bruno star will headline the Klown remake, based on the 2010 Danish film, which, in turn, was based on the same country’s long-running sitcom, “Klovn.”
Back in 2012 Danny McBride was set to remake Klown with Todd Phillips producing. The plot of that version, in similar fashion to the Danish one, would have seen McBride as a man who winds up forced to bring along the 13-year-old son of his girlfriend on a bachelor party-style canoeing trip with his best friend. Debauchery ensues. A Los Angeles-set Danish sequel titled Klown Forever released last year featured Cohen’s wife Isla Fisher.
Megan Ellison of Annapurna Pictures will produce Klown alongside Cohen and Todd Schulman under Four By Two, as well as Scott Stuber.
Cohen will hopefully make a comeback from two duds this year (The Brothers Grimsby and Alice Through the Looking Glass), and is also attached to star in a Mandrake the Magician movie for director Etan Cohen.
