Atmospheric chiller The Shelter starring Michael Paré finally hits DVD next month
Once upon a time, actor Michael Paré was hot. As in, hot in demand. After starring in films like Eddie and the Cruisers and Streets of Fire, the towering performer was a certifiable heartthrob and everyone wanted him in their movies. But Paré never really fulfilled on that initial promise. Not because of his work — he’s a fine actor, always has been — but the projects he appeared in just didn’t hit as hard as they should have.
So it’s always exciting to see a new movie that not only employs Paré, but challenges him and puts him a serious lead role. John Fallon’s mind-bending horror film The Shelter (which was shot in 2014) is one such movie and now you can see it for yourself when it appears on DVD on January 3rd from Uncork’d Entertainment.
Synopsis: On a star filled night, widower and homeless man Thomas Jacobs (Michael Paré) finds shelter for the night when he falls upon a vast two-story house with the lights on and an inviting open front door. He strolls on in thinking he just caught a lucky break and for a while, it would appear as though he did. But soon enough, he realizes that the house won’t let him leave, as its doors are all locked while its windows cannot be opened or broken. Destiny has brought Thomas to this place. What does it want from him? Will he survive the ordeal?
Extras on the DVD include an insightful audio commentary with writer/director/producer Fallon, a video interview with star Pare, a video tour of the house location, storyboards, the teaser, and the film’s unnerving trailer, which you can check out below.
