Director Oz Perkins’ unsettling new horror film The Blackcoat’s Daughter will hit theaters on March 31st from A24 films (it’s currently playing on DIRECTV), but we have a pair of tickets to give away for a very special screening this week in Brooklyn.
A24, DIRECTV, and Alamo Drafthouse will host a special screening of The Blackcoat’s Daughter on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Alamo Drafthouse (445 Albee Square West. 4th Floor, Brooklyn, NY) starting at 7:30 PM. There will be a Q&A following the screening with Perkins and stars Kiernan Shipka and Lucy Boynton in attendance.

The Blackcoat’s Daughter stars Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka as a Catholic school girl slave to hazy dreams of her father, who otherwise has seemingly abandoned her. She’s informed by the schoolmaster that indeed, her parents will not ne picking her up and that she will have to spend the winter break at the boarding school with fellow students Rose (Lucy Boynton) and Joan (Emma Roberts). Each of these girls has a story to tell and are in fragile states of mind. And as we know from a winter spent at The Overlook Hotel, a fragile state of mind cut off from the word does not make for a happy ending.
Perkins favors slow movements, slow motion, slow zooms, long stares and ambient sounds to draw you into his minimalist stylized universe. The movie is like foreplay, seductive and teasing, with every small reveal feeling like a jolt when embedded in the opium haze of the narrative.
