Scott Z. Burns thriller The Torture Report to pitch international buyers at Cannes
Production company IMR International announced that it would open up international sales for its upcoming political drama The Torture Report at this month’s Cannes Film Festival.
The film marks the theatrical directorial debut of Scott Z. Burns, who is well known for his writing on the 2007 hit The Bourne Ultimatum, as well as the critically-acclaimed Steven Soderbergh films Contagion and Side Effects. Set directly after the 9/11 attacks, the film follows the CIA’s extreme interrogation program on detainees during the war on terror and the 500+ page report the U.S. Senate Select Intelligence Committee releases detailing the practices.
Burns’ drama is also led by an impressive ensemble cast made up of Tim Blake Nelson (Colossal, Kill the Messenger), Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Logan Lucky), Ted Levine (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Monk), Michael C. Hall (Dexter, Six Feet Under), Ben McKenzie (Gotham, Southland), Matthew Rhys (The Americans, The Post), Annette Bening (American Beauty, 20th Century Women) and Jon Hamm (Baby Driver, Mad Men).
The film will also be produced by Soderbergh along with VICE Studios, who will be financing the film and releasing it domestically with the help of United Talent Agency.
