Tom Waller to direct & adapt Thai rescue story The Cave

According to Deadline, director Tom Waller has signed on to direct drama film The Cave, yet another project based on the compelling cave rescue story that happened earlier this year in Thailand. Waller also penned the film’s script.

The Cave is a drama film about the intense and difficult rescue mission of the Wild Boars soccer team, after 12 Thai boys aged 11-16 and their coach got unfortunately trapped earlier this summer in the Tham Luang Cave in Thailand last June 23. They managed to survived for 18 long days before being miraculously rescued by a brave group of international divers. The whole rescue mission of the boys were reported and televised across the world which led to millions of people anticipating for news updates regarding the rescue.

The film will be a Thai production and is scheduled to begin its shooting in November. De Warrenne Pictures, a Thailand-based production company will be producing The Cave. Wild Bunch will handle the film’s international sales and is set to introduce the project to buyers at Toronto Film Festival.

Waller is a British filmmaker that was born in Bangkok, Thailand. He directed many award-winning movies such as: murder mystery film, Mindfulness and Murer, which was Waller’s second directorial feature; and The Last Executioner which are both set in Thailand.

Last July, it was also reported that Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu was also planning to adapt the Thai rescue story with the international production company Ivanhoe Pictures (Ghoul).
