Alongside the news about The Duffer Brothers’ new production company Upside Down Pictures, the duo announced that the company would be producing a new, live-action series adaptation of Death Note for Netflix.

Not too much is known about the upcoming series, but it will be based on the hit manga and anime series originally written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. It’s also unknown if The Duffer Brothers themselves will be involved aside from having their production company attached.
This won’t be the first time that Netflix has attempted to adapt the series, with the streaming company releasing a live-action film in 2017 that debuted to less than stellar reviews. As of last year, a sequel to the film is in development, though it’s unclear whether or not this new series will have any relation to the film’s sequel.
Death Note is perhaps one of the most famous and recognizable manga and anime of all time, debuting in December 2003 and producing a 37-episode anime series that reached the same heights of popularity as the manga did. Various films and miniseries have been released in the years since the manga ended in 2006.
