One Piece Episode 1029 Recap
The Straw Hats are sailing on the Thousand Sunny. While everyone is doing their own thing, one of Uta’s songs plays. Jinbei asks about the song, and Usopp says it’s famous worldwide. Some of the other Straw Hats comment on the song. Meanwhile, Luffy remains quiet. Elsewhere, Uta waits for her show to start.
A flashback of Luffy’s childhood begins. Luffy bumps into the mayor, causing the mayor to bump into the fruit stall. A couple of fruits fall, and the mayor scolds Luffy and tells him he should help in the village sometimes. The fruit vendor hands over some of the fruits to Luffy either way. Somewhere in the forest, a gorilla tries to grab some of the fruits Luffy is carrying. Luffy tells the gorilla he will hand him the sack of fruits if the gorilla wins their sparring contest. The gorilla loses, but Luffy offers him the fruits anyway. Later, a stronger animal chases Luffy, and he runs away. He ends up falling into the river, with Garp pulling him out. Garp tells Luffy he won’t be a strong navy soldier with this. Luffy says he doesn’t want to, stating that he wishes to live more freely.
On the Red Hair Pirates’ ship, Shanks hands Uta some of the treasure they newly got. Eventually, the ship arrives at Foosha Village. Shanks tells Uta they will be based there for a while. Luffy sees the ship dock, and he immediately approaches them with caution. As time passes, Luffy tells Shanks he wants to be a pirate and join their crew. While the two are playing a game, Uta arrives. She tells Luffy not to get too close to Shanks, but Shanks tells her they should get along. In time, Uta and Luffy start to bond through friendly competition.
