Kaguya-sama: Love is War creator Aka Akasaka announced on Thursday that he plans to cease his work as a manga artist and will focus solely on writing.

According to Akasaka in a statement on Twitter, Kaguya-sama: Love is War — which ended after its 271st chapter was released in Japan this week — will be the last manga for which he works on the art, and that, while he still will continue to draw as a hobby, he is now focusing fully on writing as a profession going forward.

“I had a lot of happy memories and I can look back now and wonder if I was able to make the people around me happy,” said Akasaka (via Crunchyroll). “As for my future activities, I am planning to retire from working as a manga artist after this series. ‘Retirement’ means that I am going to retire from being a manga artist who draws, and I would like to concentrate on creating stories from now on. I want to continue my activities as a story writer. As for drawing, I intend to continue it loosely as a hobby.”

Akasaka also teased the recent ending of the Kaguya-sama manga, noting that he hopes to “make good” on the foreshadowing that appeared in the final issue “in the best way possible.”
“Even though it has ended, there is still a big hint left in it,” Akasaka said, “I am working hard to deliver it to you in the best possible way. I will try not to make it a superfluous story, so I hope you can look forward to it for a little while longer.”
