However, the source material of the series, i.e., the manhwa and the light novels, has been available for years. So, the fans are well-versed in the events that take place in the Solo Leveling universe.
During the anime’s premiere, several snippets from the upcoming fights that await Jinwoo were revealed. However, there was one particular scene that caught everyone’s attention. One of the fights featured a Red Knight, whom several fans have identified as Igris. However, audiences new to the series may not be acquainted with the Red Knight.
Solo Leveling: Sung Jinwoo vs. Igris
The fight between Sung Jinwoo and Igris starts in Chapter 39 of the Solo Leveling webtoon.
Blood-Red Commander Igris holds a special position in the main plot. Known for his massive strength, he is the first major opponent that the protagonist comes across after his second awakening. Although they started off as enemies, Igris eventually became Sung Jinwoo’s oldest and most loyal companion.
He was one of the shadow commanders in Ashborn’s army and was meant to fight the latter’s potential successor. Jinwoo fought him during the job change quest, but Igris heavily overpowered him. The protagonist was outclassed in every aspect — strength, speed, and even toughness.
The fight grew interesting as Jinwoo dropped his daggers when he realized they would not penetrate through Igris’s armor. Observing this, the latter dropped his sword too. This gesture from the shadow commander inadvertently saved Jinwoo’s life. Although he remained as powerful as before, Jinwoo was able to defeat him due to luck.
Later on, Igris became one of Jinwoo’s shadows, and got branded as the strongest in his team.
