Netflix’s UNTOLD will premiere with Volume 4, examining former NFL star Steve McNair’s murder, whose cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds. On July 4, 2009, Steve McNair died in an apparent murder-suicide his then-girlfriend, Jenni Kazemi, committed. She allegedly fatally shot the 36-year-old before turning the gun on herself. The anthology documentary series, airing on August 20, 2024, delves into the mystery surrounding “Who Killed Steve McNair?” It will also discuss other theories that investigators believe may have happened.
Steve McNair’s cause of death: How did the NFL star die?
According to The Tennessean, Steve McNair’s cause of death was four gunshot wounds he suffered during the apparent murder-suicide. McNair’s then-girlfriend, Sahel “Jenni” Kazemi, shot him four times before turning the gun on herself. The incident occurred in the former NFL star’s condominium on Lea Avenue in Nashville. He was 36 years old and married at the time of his death, while Kamezi was 20 and worked as a waitress.
People Magazine stated that authorities, using evidence at the crime scene, were able to draw a timeline of the murder-suicide. They believe Jenni Kazemi fired the first shot at Steve McNair while he was sitting on the sofa and was likely asleep. The first bullet struck McNair in the left side of his head. Kazemi then shot him twice in the chest and one final time on the right side of his head.
After shooting Steve McNair to death, Jenni Kazemi sat next to him on the sofa and turned the firearm on herself. She fired one single shot to the right side of the head and collapsed on his lap, dropping the gun and eventually slipping onto the floor. McNair’s friend Wayne Neely found the crime scene and then called his bodyguard Robert Gaddy, who finally called authorities.
Investigators ruled McNair and Kazemi’s deaths a murder-suicide. They believe the latter committed the crime in a fit of jealousy and rage after learning that the 36-year-old was seeing another woman. However, other theories suggest that someone committed the double murders, per NBC News. They believe the killer(s) later staged the crime scene to look like a murder-suicide.
Steve McNair and Jenni Kazemi’s deaths and the mystery around the case will air on Netflix’s UNTOLD on August 20.
