Shark Tale Swims to Record Sales

DreamWorks’ Shark Tale has set a February DVD release record with more than 5.5 million units sold since its street date last Tuesday, says Video Business.

The animated comedy also is this year’s best first-week performer to date, with more than 6 million total units sold and more than $80 million in retail revenue.

Shark Tale, which grossed $160.9 million at the domestic box office, fell well short of matching the first week performance of the studio’s last major animated entry. Shrek 2, a $436.5 million box office powerhouse, sold 12.1 million units in just three days, posting $185 million in early retail sales.
