Skybound Entertainment Resumes Production on Telltale’s The Walking Dead

Good news for fans of Telltale’s The Walking Dead. With the recent deal between Telltale and Skybound Entertainment finalized, production has resumed on the Final Season of the popular zombie game. The Skybound Team took to their website to make the announcement:

“Thank you for your patience while we worked with Telltale to take control of TELLTALE’S THE WALKING DEAD,” wrote the Skybound Team. “It’s been a ton of work logistically and legally to get us to a place where we’re able to roll up our sleeves and get to the actual work.”

The letter goes on to explain that production had to stop on the final two episodes during the legal process, but the team, consisting of many of the game’s original developers, have picked up where they left off.

“Soon, we will be announcing release dates for the two remaining episodes. It’s likely that previous seasons of the game may be unavailable to purchase for a few days as we transition—but don’t panic!—we’ll have everything back online ASAP.”

Skybound also notes that those who have already purchased Season 4 will not have to pay again, and that future episodes will be available to download immediately upon their release.

This is great news for Telltale Games, which underwent severe layoffs, and suspended their upcoming catalog, including The Wolf Among Us 2Stranger Things, and (at the time) The Walking Dead. Skybound swooped in and made a deal with Telltale in early October to continue The Walking Dead franchise, but hadn’t released any updates until now.

Telltale Games was a Bay Area-based video game company specializing in narrative adventures. The studio hit prominence with The Walking Dead Season 1 in 2012. The studio has since worked on video games based on BatmanGuardians of the Galaxy, and Minecraft.
