Telltale Games’ commitment to the narrative adventure genre has lived on through those who have moved on from the studio. Star Trek: Resurgence, the upcoming game by new developer Dramatic Labs, is just the next game carrying on that spirit. The choice-driven adventure game set in the iconic sci-fi universe has just been revealed at The Game Awards and will come out PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through the Epic Store sometime in spring 2022.
Resurgence takes place shortly after Star Trek: The Next Generation and stars First Officer Jara Rydek and Engineering Crewperson Carter Diaz as they are stationed on the U.S.S. Resolute. The two must dig deep into a mystery that involves two different warring alien civilizations while encountering fresh and familiar faces.
Players will be able to take part in the story and make different choices that will change the course of the tale, some of which will be similar to “tough choices that iconic Star Trek heroes have been forced to contend with,” according to ViacomCBS Senior Vice President Lourdes Arocho. Dramatic Labs Founder Kevin Bruner also spoke about his studio’s first game.

“As fans of Star Trek, it’s truly an honor to be crafting a story which puts players right in the heart of the action, where significant choices and decisions will affect the entire narrative,” he said. “Built from the ground up using Epic’s Unreal engine and our proprietary narrative engine, this game showcases our team’s evolution in creating thought-provoking story-rich adventures.”
Bruner is known for his work at Telltale as are many of his team mates. Dramatic Labs has 20 former Telltale developers that have all worked on other licensed titles like Star Trek that include The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, The Wolf Among Us, and Batman. The team is made up of bunch of former Telltale writers, directors, and producers, which makes sense for such a story-driven developer.
