Ubisoft released its annual financial results, and the report included projected release windows for several games currently in the works. Most notable is Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, an open-world action adventure that follows up on Ubisoft’s original Avatar game from 2009. Ubisoft has confirmed that the title will be out before the end of its financial year, which is set for April 1, 2023.
This somewhat narrows down the date Ubisoft gave last year during its reveal. The publisher merely said that the current-gen-only game would be coming in 2022. This updated window doesn’t spell out a delay into 2023, but does at least leave the door open for small one, even if a holiday 2022 release seems more likely. Avatar: The Way of Water is still due out in December, so it appears as though the game will fall into that blast radius either way.
Developer Massive Entertainment is working on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and is the same team responsible for The Division and its sequel. Ubisoft has only released one trailer and a tech-heavy behind-the-scenes video of the game so far, but it’s likely that there will be more pomp and circumstance regarding this tentpole release as the summer rolls around, especially if it is coming out this year.

Skull & Bones and the latest entry in the Mario + Rabbids series are two other already-announced titles that will share Frontiers of Pandora‘s release window. Skull & Bones has been in some form of development since 2013 by Ubisoft Singapore. While initially based on the ship combat in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, the game has gone through numerous redesigns in the decade since its inception and hasn’t had as firm of a release window. Ubisoft has shown the game off at several E3 events, including at least one where it was playable, and is allegedly currently running closed beta tests. If the leaked video is anything to go off of, the final game will feature naval combat as well as social hooks similar to other Ubisoft games like Riders Republic.
Finally, players on Switch can rejoin the unique Mushroom Kingdom mash-up of Mario and raving Rabbids in the upcoming Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. The game will once again see Mario and friends wielding fantastical firearms in turn-based gameplay against Rabbid foes. The new game seems to be based on parts of Super Mario Galaxy, including a Rabbid version of space princess Rosalina. As is the case with the other two titles, this game has also not been shown much outside of its initial reveal. And as was the case with Avatar, Sparks of Hope was also initially slated for 2022, so this update is more of a slight change than a brand-new announcement.

The final release dates for all three games are yet to be confirmed, but, barring some big Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake-style delay, they’ll be out at some point in the next year. Ubisoft will likely run a version of its Ubisoft Connect presentation in the coming months that will undoubtedly shed more light on these three games and, possibly, more concrete release dates.
