Crystal Dynamics has been quiet about what heroes it is working on for Marvel’s Avengers. A new report has allegedly revealed at least one of those heroes, as a reputable leaker within the game’s community has stated that Bucky Barnes will make his way to the game as a playable character sometime in the future.

Prominent Avengers insider Miller simply tweeted out that Bucky Barnes would the next hero. He also later replied saying that Barnes wouldn’t be an echo of Captain America, something fans might be concerned about given the overlap between Hawkeye and Kate Bishop and Thor and Mighty Thor. Miller didn’t give a release window, but implied that it wasn’t anytime soon. As found on Reddit, there have also been some datamined voice lines welcoming Barnes into the game, one of which appears to be from Wakandan characters (including Black Panther himself). Other voice lines call out Barnes (as well as She-Hulk and Captain Marvel) as he falls in battle.

However, it’s unclear how this all fits with the other reports claiming that She-Hulk is also coming to the game. Miller tweeted in December that She-Hulk was going to be in the game and would be voiced by Krizia Bajos, which is something Bajos seemingly corroborated with a (now-deleted) tweet. A recent official Xbox stream appeared to have backed up that report, as the host divulged that his voice acting teacher was voicing the unannounced character, which was a description that also pointed to Bajos. And in addition to the aforementioned voice line leaks, there are also others that mention She-Hulk.
Mighty Thor’s release complicated things a bit since it seemed like She-Hulk was slated to arrive before the hammer-wielding hero, but Miller attributed the reported switch to the team wanting to line more up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She-Hulk’s rumored inclusion also points to that being plausible (given Mighty Thor’s release around Thor: Love and Thunder how it premiered before She-Hulk’s incoming Disney+ series), but putting Bucky into the game next would presumably put the game out of line with the MCU.

While the details haven’t been confirmed by Crystal Dynamics and might be a little fuzzy or still in flux, Miller has been correct about Marvel’s Avengers many times in the past. He first reported that God of War actor Christopher Judge was be voicing Black Panther, how Crossbones would be a villain, that Jane Foster was making her way to the game, and datamined more than a handful of skins from the title before their official announcements, some of which still haven’t been revealed. Crystal Dynamics has been rather tight-lipped either way, but with plenty of evidence pointing to She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, and Bucky Barnes, it looks as though the next few heroes might not be huge surprises.
