Elden Ring’s Colosseum Mode Update Is Now Live

Elden Ring has seen a few updates here and there since its launch in February, but it has just gotten its biggest one yet. FromSoftware has released a new 1.08 update that adds new PvP Colosseums, as well as a few more hairstyles.

These arenas are located in Limgrave, Caelid, and Leyndell and each has their own set of rules. The Limgrave one has two modes: United Combat and Combat Ordeal. The former is a bit like deathmatch since two teams fight timed battles and can respawn after death. The team with more points wins. Combat Ordeal is a free-for-all version of the same mode.

Leyndell features Duel Mode where two players face off against each other and can’t respawn. The Caelid arena has all three modes, but combatants can summon Spirit Ashes during fights. Each also has different rules regarding Spirit Ashes and flasks. Players can use group passwords to party up or take each other on and can set the number of Tarnished that can enter the ring.

While the Colosseums make up the bulk of the update, this patch also added in five new hairstyles and a bevy of balance changes, as shown by the official notes. The new hairstyles can be equipped at the mirror in the Roundtable Hold.

The Colosseum also isn’t a complete surprise since a modder was able to find them in the game shortly after launch. The datamined arenas in the video are in the same places as those in the 1.08 update. This early footage also shows that the one in Leyndell has a similar — but slightly different — interior to the one found in the 1.08 patch.

Some are also speculating that this big free add-on is a precursor to a more proper expansion announcement at The Game Awards on December 8. And while Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest debuted Elden Ring gameplay in 2021, nothing has been announced for the 2022 awards show.
