Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed’s Free DLC Adds New Ghosts & Items

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is still getting content, and Illfonic has announced what its next wave of support is going to look like. The asymmetrical online game is getting three new playable ghost types, some more spectral minions, another map, additional cosmetics, and a handful quality-of-life improvements. It’ll all be free, too, and is coming to the title in an update scheduled for April 20.

The three playable ghosts — Scuttle, Hellion, and Terror Sentinel (as shown in the above slideshow) — are the biggest part of the update. These Possessor types will all have unique abilities, but Illfonic did not detail what they would be. Drudges are a new A.I. ghost that can help scare humans and more can be spawned with the rift. There are also new trap ghosts that are riddled with sharp teeth and can be planted to gnaw on unsuspecting Busters.

The Courthouse is the new map included in this drop, and Illfonic promises that it will be a “uniquely entwined gameplay space” with all sorts of halls and offices.

There are even a few cosmetic additions, some of which call back to Extreme Ghostbusters, an animated series that ran for one season in 1997 and was a spin-off of The Real Ghostbusters. They’ll be unlockable through Side Hustles and Research Contracts and sit alongside the new footwear, skirts, kilt bottoms, and makeup styles that are also coming to the game.

Illfonic is also touching up the gear upgrade menu, improving the bots, fixing some bugs, and making balance changes, all in an effort to improve the game’s foundation. It’s also not done supporting Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, as it is getting free quarterly updates in 2023. The studio also supported Predator: Hunting Grounds, its last title, for many years, too.
