The synopsis for Star Wars: The Acolyte Episode 1, Lost / Found, begins by confirming that the series takes place about a hundred years before Darth Sidious or Sheev Palpatine became the Emperor of the Galaxy. Without the overt presence of the Sith or any other major threat, the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic have only known peace and prosperity for centuries. Things suddenly change when a young masked woman appears on Planet Ueda and murders Indara.

During their fight, Indara succeeds in unmasking her attacker and visibly recognizes her. Despite being a well-trained Force user, the attacker is no match for the Jedi Master. She only succeeds after distracting Indara by targeting a bystander.

Indara’s death sends ripples across the galaxy, and soon, Jedi Knight Yord Fandar (Charlie Barnett) and Padawan Jecki Lon (Dafne Keen) arrive on a Trade Federation cargo ship looking for Osha, who bears a stark resemblance with Indara’s murderer. Osha, who now works as a meknek and has been out of the Jedi Order for six years, is understandably confused and claims innocence. Despite this, she is arrested and sent to Coruscant, the capital of the Republic.

On their way to face trial, Osha’s fellow prisoners orchestrate an escape plan. However, they are ultimately captured, and Osha and her Pip droid end up on the frozen planet of Carlac. Meanwhile, on Coruscant, Sol learns about the allegations against his former pupil and doesn’t believe them. He and Indara rescued Osha from a fire 16 years ago, and he believes that the young woman isn’t capable of murdering one of the people who saved her.

Sol convinces the Jedi Order to send him to Carlac to retrieve Osha and takes Yord and Jecki with him. On Carlac, Osha has a Force-induced vision of her identical twin sister, Mae, and discovers that the latter killed Indara. Sol, Yord, and Jecki reflect on the same possibility as they make their way through the hyperspace. Sol initially rejects the idea and outwardly asserts that Mae died in the same fire she started 16 years ago. However, he seems doubtful when he is alone. He later reunites with Osha and saves her from falling off a cliff on Carlac. When Osha tells him that Mae is the real murderer, Sol agrees with her.

The episode ends as Mae arrives on an unidentified planet and approaches a person with a mask and a lightsaber. The closed caption designates this individual as “stranger.” In a voiceover, the stranger details the purpose of an Acolyte, most likely referring to Mae. He claims that failure is inevitable if someone attacks a Jedi with a weapon. However, the Jedi live in a dream, which they believe others share, and “an Acolyte kills the dream.”
