Fans of Bridgerton Season 3 might be wondering who the diamond is. In previous seasons of the Netflix romance series, Queen Charlotte pronounced a “diamond” to elevate an eligible woman on the marriage market by bestowing her favor. Daphne Bridgerton was given this honor in season 1, whereas Edwina Sharma was given this in season 2. Actually no, Queen Charlotte does not name a diamond in Bridgerton Season 3, not in Part 1 nor in Part 2.
There are two reasons why she chooses not to name a diamond, despite wanting to find one early in the season. Though she gave both Daphne and Edwina this informal title, the matches she attempted to make with them fell through. Daphne chose not to marry Prince Friedrich in the first season, while Edwina doesn’t marry Anthony Bridgerton. Having her plans thwarted twice has made her hesitate to name a diamond in season three as she doesn’t want to see her influence diminish in the eyes of the ton, as desperate as they are to know who the diamond might be.
Another possible reason, though the queen would never admit to it, is that Lady Whistledown lays out an argument to dispense with the notion of the diamond altogether. To her, this epithet may not be something that women should be trying to receive as it chains them to an outdated notion of what should be valued.
Either way, Queen Charlotte does not name a diamond in Season 3. Instead, after hearing Francesca Bridgerton play the pianoforte in a private room at a ball, she names her a “sparkler.” Later in the season, the queen once again tries to set up a match between Francesca and Lord Samadani, but that falls through when Francesca chooses Lord Kilmartin instead.
