An advocate of drugs, psychologist Timothy Leary was caught by the law in December 1965 when his girlfriend, Rosemary Woodruff, returned from Mexico with marijuana. Leary took responsibility for the possession and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. In 1970, he was given various psychological tests to see what inmates should be assigned to as far as work is concerned. Leary answered them easily since he designed some of the tests himself, one of which was called the Leary Interpersonal Behavior Inventory. By acting docile, he was able to become a gardener in a low-security prison, from which he escaped in September 1970.
