Marvel Studios: Is It in Crisis & Is the MCU Dying?

Trends point towards people asking “Is Marvel Studios in a crisis?” and “Is the MCU dying?” Here’s what you need to know about the current state of Marvel Studios and the MCU, based around credible reports.

Is Marvel Studios in a crisis?

New reports suggest that Marvel is in complete crisis due to various behind-the-scenes factors, including the SAG-AFTRA strike.

As per Variety’s detailed report, Marvel is reportedly facing a major crisis with The Marvels tracking extremely low box office numbers. The studio is apparently aware that most of Phase 4 and many Disney Plus MCU titles haven’t worked as well as they should have.

On top of that, the drama surrounding Jonathan Majors is reportedly causing friction, as he is supposed to be the next Thanos-level big bad. Future projects continue to be on hiatus due to the actors’ strike with movies like Deadpool 3 and Thunderbolts staring at potential delays. Daredevil: Born Again faces major production delays due to a change in its creative team.

Is the MCU dying?

Marvel seems to be facing a slow death, but there is hope for the future.

Trouble for Marvel truly began with Ms. Marvel and Thor: Love and Thunder. The former was received well by the critics but had the lowest reported viewership numbers. Meanwhile, Thor 4 appeared to turn in a profit but wasn’t received as well by fans. Following that, She-Hulk was also disliked by many, which may have led to fans turning their backs on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

There is hope for upcoming projects such as Deadpool 3 and Avengers: Secret Wars to be major success stories for Marvel, following on from the strong-performing Loki season 2.

With reports pointing towards a potential reboot, it’s looking more and more likely that Disney and Marvel will be trying to start anew.
