Why is Godzilla Pink in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire?
In Godzilla x Kong, Gojira is pink for multiple reasons including references to the past, marketing and merchandizing aspects, and adding freshness/new abilities to the monster’s armory.
The latest Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire trailer revealed Godzilla in some sort of a hibernation lair. Then as soon as the Alpha Kaiju woke up, it glowed with a pink aura instead of the regular blue color. Similar to how Godzilla got an orange-red makeover in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, his next step in evolution is pink!
Even though certain memes might try to make you believe otherwise, Godzilla’s pink aura has nothing to do with Barbie or its success. The MonsterVerse Titan has got a color change due to multiple other reasons.
The first reason is that it pays homage to Toho’s Godzilla 2000. Secondly, a newly colored Godzilla will sell more merchandise and action figures. Thirdly, it showcases the evolution of Godzilla and his arc in the MonsterVerse narrative by signifying an increase in his powers. The fourth reason is that it also differentiates the MonsterVerse’s version of Godzilla from Toho’s antagonistic Gojira, who was recently seen in Godzilla Minus One.
What are Pink Godzilla’s new powers in The New Empire?
Pink Godzilla continues to have similar abilities as the past version, but only stronger. This pink form is the most evolved and strongest version of the character yet.
How Godzilla taps into his pink mode remains to be seen. But the recent trailer likely teased it with Godzilla going into his hibernation lair. His return from that supercharges his atomic breath and possibly makes him even stronger than he was in King of the Monsters when Mothra’s essence empowered him.
So far, Godzilla possesses abilities such as regeneration, atomic breath, nuclear pulse, and super strength. All these powers likely get enhanced in his pink form. But in the past, the Shin Godzilla version showed transformation capabilities with its purple breath. So, Godilla’s new pink breath could also have fixing/healing abilities, which might be confirmed in future trailers.
