K-pop girl group KARA has made their 2024 comeback with a new single, “I Do I Do.” The girl group’s latest single marks their second song release this year after “Hello.” As Kara marks a new beginning, fans look at how many members of the K-pop act are still active in 2024.
2024 has been the year of second-generation girl groups returning to the music scene. Recently, YG’s famous girl group 2NE1 announced their reunion to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the act. KARA also joined the list, announcing the group will make its 2024 comeback with the new song “I Do I Do.”
How many members are in 2024 KARA comeback?
KARA underwent several changes in its group formation since its debut in 2007 under DSP Media. Initially, the group had Park Gyuri, Han Seungyeon, Nicole Jung, and Kim Sunghee. Later, Sunghee left the group, and Hara and Kang Jiyoung joined.
The group currently has five active members: Gyuri, Seungyeon, Nicole, Jiyoung, and Youngji. However, the active members of KARA decided to pay tribute to the late K-pop star Hara by adding her vocals to the song “Hello.”
KARA’s current agency, RBW, explained that “Hello” was originally a 2013 track that was supposed to be in the group’s studio album, “Full Bloom.” The song has been rearranged and remastered using Hara’s voice recording from the original audio. “Hello” also features the vocals of the group maknae, Youngji, who became a part of KARA in 2014.
Late K-pop icon Hara’s vocals appear in verse 2 of “Hello,” where she sings: “Hello, in the midst of a long wait/ I’m becoming more and more stupid.” Jiyoung, Youngji, and Nicole carry the verse forward in the chorus, singing, “For the first time/ For the first love/ For the first kiss/ Those habit-like words/ Are now different (Different), different (Different), different (Ha)/ Words that I won’t be able to contain alone.”
Meanwhile, KARA released their last EP, Move Again, in 2022, which marked the group’s 15th anniversary special release. The reunion made second-generation K-pop fans nostalgic, as it sold over 20,128 copies within a week of its release. The EP ranked 16th at the Circle Album Chart. With another comeback in 2024, fans hope KARA members have more in store for them in the future.
