At the end of the penultimate episode of House of the Dragon Season 2, Rhaenyra’s army, or the team Blacks, has three new dragonriders. Now, viewers want to know the names of all the dragons and their riders in Rhaenyra’s camp.
Here is everything you need to know about the dragons and their riders Rhaenyra Targaryen has in her army.
List of all dragons and riders in Rhaenyra Targaryen’s army including bastards
Following the recruitment of Addam, Hugh, and Ulf, the scales have decidedly tipped toward the Blacks. As of Season 2 Episode 7, Rhaenyra’s army has at least seven flying dragons, overwhelmingly outnumbering the Greens, who have only three (with Sunfyre being too wounded to fly anytime soon). This is after the Blacks lost Arrax and Lucerys Velaryon and Meleys and Rhaenys Targaryen in the course of the war.
Rhaenyra Targaryen rides Syrax
Rhaenyra claimed Syrax when both the dragon and the rider were quite young. In George R. R. Martin’s book, Rhaenyra is the one who names her dragon after the Valyrian goddess Syrax. This implies that she is Syrax’s first rider.
Addam of Hull rides Seasmoke
Toward the end of Season 2 Episode 6, Seasmoke finds Addam of Hull, a son of Corlys Velaryon born out of wedlock, and claims him. In episode 7, Addam swears allegiance to Rhaenyra.
Hugh Hammer rides Vermithor
It is heavily implied in episode 7 that Hugh is the son of Saera Targaryen, the daughter of Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Queen Alysanne Targaryen. From what Hugh says, we can glean that despite her status, Saera resided in a pleasure house of King’s Landing. Hugh is married, and it is revealed in episode 7 that his daughter, whom we have seen in the earlier episodes, has passed away. Hugh ends up claiming Vermithor, the dragon his grandfather used to ride before his death. At the time of Dance of the Dragons, Vermithor is the second biggest dragon in the world after Vhagar.
Ulf the White rides Silverwing
Like Hugh, Ulf is from King’s Landing in the show. He claims that he is the illegitimate son of Baelon Targaryen, the father of Viserys I and Daemon, though these claims are yet to be confirmed. During the Red Sowing, Ulf tries to escape Vermithor by going deeper into the caverns and ends up in Silverwing’s lair, and the former dragon of Queen Alysanne claims him.
Jacaerys Velaryon rides Vermax
Jacaerys was given a dragon egg when he was still a child. When that egg hatched, Jacaerys became his rider.
Daemon Targaryen rides Caraxes
In the book, Daemon is the second rider of Caraxes, the Blood Wyrm. Before him, Aemon Targaryen, Rhaenys’s father, was Caraxes’ rider. The book describes Caraxes as half the size of Vhagar.
Baela Velaryon rides Moondancer
Baela Targaryen, also known as Baela Velaryon, is the first rider of Moondancer, another young dragon. Likely due to her youth, Moondancer is supposed to be incredibly fast, both on the ground and on air.
Small dragons and future riders
Besides the above-mentioned dragons, the Blacks also have Stormcloud and Tyraxes, who are bonded to Aegon III and Joffrey Velaryon, respectively. Both are young dragons and too small to be used in the early stages of the Dance of the Dragons.
Honorable Mention: Rhaena Targaryen rides Sheepstealer
It appears that the show is establishing Rhaena as the rider of Sheepstealer. In the book, Nettles, one of the dragonseeds, becomes Sheepstealer’s rider.
