Reports have begun circulating recently claiming that Apple is set to announce a new Mac Mini, a product that was originally introduced in January 2005. Since undergoing a major revamp back in 2010, the design of the New Mini has remained the same, though the addition of Apple Silicon positively impacted its potential. If the reports are true, the upcoming release will be the first significant design change for Mac Mini in 14 years.
Is Apple releasing a new Mac Mini in 2024?
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has been reporting on Apple’s plans to release a new version of Mac Mini for months. Last week, he reiterated his claims in an X (formerly Twitter) post.
“In line with what I’ve been reporting for a while, Apple will very soon launch its new Macs. There should be some hands-ons outside of Cupertino and online video,” Gurman wrote. “I expect the M4 iMac, MacBook Pro, revamped Mac mini and USB-C accessories.”
According to Gurman, the new Mac Mini, powered by M4, will be the smallest computer of all time and have five USB-C ports, two of which will be located in front of the device.
In a more recent post on X, Gurman mentioned that Apple would launch its M4 Mac products this week, though he didn’t mention a specific day. “Busy week for Apple next week: Apple Intelligence on Monday, then M4 Mac launch, then earnings results on Thursday (perhaps the last with the current CFO), he shared. “Happy Halloween!”
Before Mac Mini first came out in 2005, Steve Jobs hailed it as “the cheapest, and most affordable Mac ever.” He also referred to it as “BYODKM… bring your own display, keyboard, and mouse.” (via BBC)
Apple began releasing the Mac Mini with Apple Silicon as part of its transition to in-house chips in 2020. Three years later, the company unveiled the newer and current models based on M2 and M2 Pro chips.
At the time of writing, Apple has not released any official statement confirming reports about the upcoming announcements and introductions.
