Why Is Last Tango in Halifax Leaving Netflix & When?

Last Tango in Halifax was recently confirmed to be leaving Netflix pretty soon. This has alarmed many fans, who are now curious about when and why the British dramedy is leaving the platform.

Here is what we have learned.

When is Last Tango in Halifax leaving Netflix and why?

Last Tango in Halifax is scheduled to leave Netflix on January 12, 2025.

As such, viewers have only about three weeks left to stream the first four seasons of Last Tango on Netflix before it leaves the platform. Fortunately, the seasons are quite short regarding the episodic length.

As for why Last Tango in Halifax is leaving Netflix, the exact reason is unknown. However, it is likely due to the expiration of Netflix’s license to stream the show.

This isn’t the first time the show left Netflix, however. Last Tango in Halifax left the platform in November 2019 when the license renewal came up. Fortunately, Netflix renewed the license and brought the show back a few months later in 2020. This was followed by Season 4 dropping one year later, in January 2021.

Unfortunately, Season 5 has not made its way into the platform since its release in 2020.

It is currently unknown where Last Tango in Halifax will stream following its departure from Netflix. Due to this, you may need to purchase the series either on disc or on VOD if you wish to see the series following its Netflix exit.

Other shows expected to leave Netflix in January 2025 are New Amsterdam, Rita, The Magicians, and Monk, among others.

Last Tango in Halifax was helmed by Sally Wainwright, whose previous credits include Happy Valley, Gentleman Jack, and Renegade Nell. Wainwright wrote six episodes of the series.

The story follows Celia and Alan, two widowed grandparents who rekindle a past romantic relationship. This happens when their respective grandsons put their details on Facebook.

Anne Reid, Derek Jacobi, Paul Copley, Sarah Lancashire, Nicola Walker, Tony Gardner, Josh Bolt, Dean Andrews, and Nina Sosanya make up the core cast.
