While Days of Our Lives fans had to bid John Black a teary goodbye due to the tragic passing of Drake Hogestyn, who embodied the character for over three decades, it came with a small silver lining: it initiated the return of Christie Clark’s Carrie Brady to the show. The 51-year-old thespian was more than happy to come back to DoOL to pay tribute to Hogestyn, as well as his departing character, as she noted in a recent interview.

Christie Clark says Carrie returns to Days of Our Lives to honor late Drake Hogestyn
While speaking with TV Insider, Christie Clark explained the reason behind her Days of Our Lives return, noting, “I knew I had to come back, because it was for him [Drake Hogestyn]. He was my mentor, and really was the main principal actor I worked with and grew up with, and gave me everything.”
She then doubled down on the close bond she had with Hogestyn, stating, “He taught me some good lessons on how to be a good person. He was my second dad, and we played a lot of practical jokes on each other constantly.”
Christie Clark portrayed Carrie Brady on Days of Our Lives between 1986 and 1989, and then again from 1992 to 1999. Since then, the veteran actress has made several recurring appearances on the long-running soap drama.
Unfortunately, Christie Clark wasn’t able to meet her Days of Our Lives mentor in his final moments due to the severity of his condition. Nevertheless, his passing had a deep impact on the entire DoOL cast, with everyone displaying their genuine emotions in front of the camera during the death of Hogestyn’s John Black. “He sadly died, like, five days after we filmed everything. Everybody knew that it was going to happen, because it was terminal cancer, so nobody was acting [when filming the scenes of John’s demise]. It is just raw emotion for someone that we all loved,” Clark said.
When asked if she would return to Days of Our Lives again, Christie Clark stated, “I would probably go back, because it’s family, but I want to work on other stuff right now.”
