Peter Reckell is back as Bo Brady in Days of Our Lives after a long gap, and he has missed out on a lot in between. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about Victor and Doug’s deaths while he was away. He also delved into the tragic demise of Drake Hogestyn, DOOL’s John Black.
Peter Reckell says it was ‘heartbreaking’ to see Doug and Victor’s deaths in Days of Our Lives
Peter Reckell’s Bo Brady had not been around since 2023. He was shot and remained in a coma for a long time. However, he was brought back to the show recently. His return was a bittersweet affair. A lot of it was good, as it meant that Bo was back with Hope (Kristian Alfonso). But while he was not on the show, a lot happened. This included several character deaths and farewells.
Peter Reckell spoke about this in a new interview with Sopa Opera Digest. He unfolded his heartbreak at witnessing these big deaths and departures from the sidelines.
“Well, having missed those moments as I looked on X (formerly Twitter) and saw things happening without me, it was difficult during those two years. So much had happened…Being on the sidelines watching it happen…DAYS is my family, and it was kind of heartbreaking to watch it happen and not be there, especially for people that I loved so dearly like John [Aniston, who played Victor] and Bill [Hayes, who played Doug] and Peggy [McCay, who played Caroline],” said Reckell about the time he was away.
He continued, “There were people that didn’t come up in this short time that I was there. But the writers really did an excellent job of bringing up the things that were important in those particular relationships with my father [Victor] and Doug. It was the kind of work you really want to do, but the fact that it was about people that I loved…There was that double-edged thing. As an actor, I felt, ‘Wow, this is good material.’ But as a person, it was just heartbreaking.”
Peter Reckell’s heartbreaking experience during his coma also means losing out on Drake Hogestyn’s final days as John Black. He also expressed his remorse over this in the same interview.
