Happy Gilmore 2 finally premiered on Netflix after a decades-long gap from the first movie, but this time, the movie went in an offbeat direction with a major death within the first half of the film. Who was the character killed off in Happy Gilmore 2? Here is a breakdown.

Here’s who dies in Happy Gilmore 2 and how
Julie Bowen’s Virginia dies in Happy Gilmore 2.
Happy Gilmore 2, a light-hearted comedy that features some big celebrities and the renowned and beloved Adam Sandler’s humor, had a big surprise waiting for fans in the initial few moments of the movie.
The film opened with the aftermath of Happy’s win in the first film. He describes how both he and Virginia (Julie Bowen) fell more in love with each other, and are now happily married. They are parents to five children — four sons and a daughter — as well.
But soon after, Happy mistakenly hit a ball that hit Virginia in the head, killing her. This left Happy as a single father, and he quit golf altogether. Julie Bowen does make more appearances in the movie, especially in Happy’s imagination. Her character’s death is rather shocking, still.
It is unusual for comedy movies like these to go down this route, but when done well, these plotlines could immensely benefit the narrative. Adam Sandler’s movies have done this before, and this time, too, it seems to have worked out pretty well.
Happy Gilmore 2 has an ensemble cast, featuring Sandler, Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Ben Stiller, Dennis Dugan, Benny Safdie, and Bad Bunny. Other cast members include Eric André, Conor Sherry, and Margaret Qualley.
The synopsis for the movie reads, “Happy Gilmore isn’t done with golf — not by a long shot. Adam Sandler’s short-fused legend swings for a comeback to make his kid’s dream come true.”
It is now streaming on Netflix.
