E! News has been canceled after over three decades as a linear TV show. The nightly entertainment news program dates back to around 1991. It was seemingly canceled once during COVID-19, and now it has been axed for good. Reports suggest that it will continue to live on by transitioning to a digital brand.
But why was E! News canceled?
Here is why E! News was canceled
The media scenario is ever-changing, and hence, there are always new arrivals and departures in the TV space. But E! News was an iconic program that has been around for a very long time. However, unfortunately, the program will end its long-drawn run on September 25, 2025.
The decision to cancel the show comes from the E! network. As per a source, as modern consumers demand an emphasis on real-time digital coverage, the broadcast during the 11 PM slot is not as useful for viewership anymore. However, E! is continuing to grow on the digital front, which has perhaps prompted the network to take this decision. (via Variety)
Beyond this, E! will continue to remain active on digital platforms. It boasts a whopping 87 million followers on social media.
The broadcast for Thursday, July 24, 2025, will be a repeat. Following this, there will be new episodes till September 25, 2025. On September 25, it will conclude for good, and E! News will move completely to digital.
Moreover, this decision may also be impacted, or at least influenced, by NBCUniversal splitting itself into two. Going forward, the NBC broadcast network, Peacock, Bravo, and the studios will remain a part of NBCU, while USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Syfy, E!, Oxygen, and Golf Channel, along with their digital businesses, will go under Versant, a new company, which will be led by CEO Mark Lazarus. This is expected to bring many changes to the NBC slate.
