No, Al Roker Is Not Leaving the Today Show – Absence Explained

Fans are worried that Al Roker might be leaving the Today show after he hadn’t appeared in the last couple of episodes. But that’s not really the case.

Here’s what a recent Instagram post from his wife, Deborah Roberts, indicates about the truth behind his absence.

Why do fans think Al Roker is leaving the Today Show?

Emmy Winner, Al Roker, has been with the Today show since he joined it in 1997 and is quite the fan-favorite. But in recent episodes, Dylan Dreyer and Bill Karins took his place as hosts. This has the viewers worried that Al Roker is leaving the show. This is not true. Roker is currently enjoying a family vacation in Italy.

In a recent Instagram post, his wife, Deborah Roberts, shared a series of photos of their vacation. The caption said, “The beauty of Italy in August. Sunny. Quiet. Lovely. #grateful #heart“

This brings some sigh of relief to all his fans that their favorite host is just enjoying a holiday with his family and will return to host the show soon.

Fans can also rejoice as Roker’s animated show, Weather Hunters, will premiere on September 8, 2025, on PBS Kids. Two years ago, he announced that he was working on a passion project that was ten years in the making.

Weather Hunters is about 8-year-old Lily Hunter, who, along with her family, goes on adventures to understand the nuances of various weather conditions. It also features Roker lending his voice as Al Hunter, Lily’s father. The show currently has 10 episodes scheduled, each with a runtime of 22 minutes.

It is aimed at kids to educate them on weather and STEM concepts through adventure and comedy. This is done to spark curiosity in kids about weather and climate, encouraging them to become active learners about the environment.
