Adapted from Sebald’s ’02 novel
Earlier in the week Peter Jackson (Dead Alive, “Lord of the Rings” trilogy) went fishing for studios. His bait? An adaptation of Alice Sebold’s novel “The Lovely Bones” he scripted with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.
Jackson cast the script out into the market last Monday hoping it would find a home. After a bidding war, a studio was ultimately hooked: Dreamworks. The Hollywood Reporter states big guns Warner Bros., Universal (where Jackson helmed King Kong) and Sony all vied for the property but as of today Jackson’s going to be directing “Bones” for Steve Spielberg’s company.
Susie Salmon is the centerpiece of Sebold’s 2002 story, a young girl who watches over her family after being murdered by a killer who’s preparing to strike again.
