Joins Spierig vampire flick
Ethan Hawke can’t stay away from bloodsuckers. Just this week we reported that he will be co-starring in Julie Delpy’s The Countess, the story of Erzsebet Bathory. Now he’s toplining Daybreakers for the Spierig brothers Peter and Michael. These sinister siblings also directed the Aussie zombie flick Undead; the recent announcement of Hawke’s involvement marks the end of a long journey to bring Daybreakers to the screen.
Principal photography begins this July in Australia with WETA (“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, King Kong) serving as the FX team. They’ll have quite a chore at hand as the film reflects a world populated by vampires after a plague wipes out most of the human race in 2017. Seeking plasma nourishment, the vamps realize their cattle is dwindling and the only thing left to do is start seeking alternative resources or farm every last human being on Earth. Their problems intensify when they discover there is something that can actually save the humans from extinction.
Hawke is said to being playing “a researcher.”
Lionsgate will release the film here in the U.S. with the studio’s Peter Block and Jason Constantine overseeing the production.
