Labyrinth, Descent recognized
Shock had the good fortune to attend this year’s 33rd Annual Saturn Awards ceremony. The top kudos mostly went to Superman Returns, but that’s not to say horror didn’t clean up nicely.
The coveted Best Horror Film of 2006 nod went to Neil Marshall’s The Descent, beating out Saw III, Hostel, Final Destination 3, Slither and Snakes on a Plane.
Guillermo Del Toro (busy prepping Hellboy 2) accepted his Best Foreign Film win for Pan’s Labyrinth via video along with the help of creature actor Doug Jones who did a fine job improvising an acceptance speech. “Labyrinth” leading lady Ivana Baquero took home an award of her own for Best Performance by a Younger Actor.
Turning to the small screen, Michael C. Hall – not in attendance – won for Best Actor in a Television Series for his work on Showtime’s “Dexter.” And last, but not least, Anchor Bay and Starz’s “Masters of Horror” Season 1 got show-runner Mick Garris back on stage for a second year in a row, this time to accept an award for Best Television Series on DVD.
