The 13th Friday: Indie supernatural chiller has nothing to do with Jason Voorhees
For those of you bummed out that Paramount still hasn’t coughed up a new Friday the 13th reboot we have good news. Actually, we have no news at all save for the fact that director Justin Price (Dark Moon Rising) is circumnavigating copyrights by titling his latest film The 13th Friday. The good news is that, based on the trailer, The 13th Friday looks pretty good, a slick and moody chiller that aims a bit higher than your average slasher flick. The 13th Friday premieres on VOD on October 10th from Uncork’d Entertainment.
Synopsis: When a female refugee discovers an ancient demonic device that opens the gateway to another realm, she unleashes a dark entity that poses as her daughter. After many failed attempts to have the church explain the creation of her worst nightmares, she learns that the house is cursed by an enraged spirit that died on Friday the 13th. And now a group of thrill seeking friends unknowingly unleash its wrath and damn their souls.
Lisa May, Khu, Melissa L. Vega, and Victoria Valdez star in the film. Yeah, the marketing is duplicitous but hey, exploitation cinema was built on misleading marketing campaigns. Have a look at The 13th Friday trailer and tell us what you think.
