Despite the mixed reviews, the film managed to garner millions at the box office. As it has been nine months since the film came out in theaters, it is finally time for its digital debut. Adah Sharma played the lead role of Shalini Unnikrishnan turned Fatima Ba in The Kerala Story. Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, Sonia Balani, Pranay Pachauri, Vijay Krishna, and others played supporting roles. Sudipto Sen helmed the film, while Sunshine Pictures produced it. As per Sacnilk, the movie minted a whopping $36.36 million at its worldwide box office.

The Kerala Story hit the theaters on May 5 and soon took the lead at the box office. The film received mixed reactions as many lauded it, while others slammed it. Months after its release, the OTT platform Zee5 recently revealed that the movie will be available to stream online starting February 16, 2024. The announcement read, “The wait is officially over! The most anticipated film is dropping soon on ZEE5! #TheKeralaStory premieres on 16th February, only on Zee5.”
The OTT platform also confirmed that the movie will be released in five languages. They wrote, “Thank you for the update! We are excited to announce that ‘The Kerala Story’ will be available in Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu. It will be a great move for accessibility!”
The official synopsis of the film reads, “Shalini Unnikrishnan is coaxed into changing her faith and adopting a new name, Fatima Ba. She shares her harrowing journey of joining the ISIS and getting imprisoned in Afghanistan.”
