Frankly Speaking episode 1 spoilers: Kang Han-Na wants Go Kyung-Pyo in her variety TV show

Frankly Speaking episode 1 begins with Song Ki-Baek (Go Kyung-Pyo), a news anchor at the JBC broadcasting channel. His boss makes him do a segment with kids, which annoys Ki-Baek, but he endures everything. His colleagues feel bad for him and mention that this way, he may achieve the lead anchor’s position.

During the daily news segment, his co-anchor receives a few photos of her cheating on her husband. While Ki-Baek singlehandedly saves the show, things get complicated when her husband shows up on the set. On live broadcasting, the husband exposes his wife. In the process, Ki-Baek becomes a matter of joke everywhere. This incident affects his chances of achieving the lead anchor’s position.

Devastated and stressed, he takes the elevator, holding his stomach. At the same time, variety TV writer On Woo-Joo (Kang Han-Na) hops in the elevator. It stops due to a miscommunication between the lift maintenance guys. While Woo-Joo panics and tries to open the door, Ki-Baek’s upset stomach ends up creating an awkward moment.

After the elevator incident, Ki-Baek tries to pull through and work hard toward achieving his goal. But his boss is reluctant to give him the anchor’s position and, hence, asks him to join a variety show. On the other hand, Woo-Joo is the writer of the variety show and finds Ki-Baek to be an appropriate cast member. Initially, Ki-Baek declines the offer; however, he realizes that the show may improve his image in public.

Frankly Speaking episode 1 ending: What happens after Go Kyung-Pyo gets electrocuted?

In Frankly Speaking episode 1, Ki-Baek (Go Kyung-Pyo) participates in Woo-Joo’s (Kang Han-Na) variety show. In it, he has to play a friendly dodgeball match with top-star PN. The celebrity portrays a cool and kind image in public but harasses his crew in private.

On the dodgeball court, Ki-Baek gets fired up when PN tries to hit him with the ball. The announcer showcases his skills and hits PN multiple times, leaving him angry and frustrated. Woo-Joo realizes that this may backfire and takes Ki-Baek to a room to have a conversation regarding the show. They enter an electricity-control room where Woo-Joo tries to make him understand that it is a friendly match and PN is the celebrity in it.

Accidentally, Ki-Baek touches a socket and gets electrocuted. When he comes to his senses, his behavior changes. Suddenly, he cannot stop himself from blurting out brutal truths without thinking. At the episode’s end, Ki-Baek aggressively bashes PN for harassing the crew. When Woo-Joo stops him, he realizes something is wrong with him.

The comedy K-drama Frankly Speaking will return with a new episode on Thursday, May 2, 2024, on JTBC and Netflix.
