Netflix Gives Update on Korean Series Squid Game Season 3 Possibility

Squid Game season 3 will reportedly release soon after season 2. Netflix recently gave an update regarding the upcoming installments, which will mark the return of K-drama actors, Lee Jung-Jae, Gong Yoo, Wi Ha-Joon, and others.

Squid Game season 1 streamed on Netflix on September 17, 2021, and became an instant hit. With its rising popularity worldwide, the South Korean series won the Primetime Emmy Award for  Outstanding Lead Actor in Drama Series. Moreover, the first installment ended on a cliffhanger, leaving fans curious about season 2.

The premiere of the upcoming season will likely occur towards the end of 2024. Additionally, two new seasons will be released sequentially.

Squid Game season 2 & 3 release date: Netflix has an update

Squid Game seasons 2 and 3 release dates have not been announced yet. However, Netflix has an update regarding this. 

In an interview with Osen, the streamer declined to respond to the season 3 release. It stated, “We are currently working on season 2, and it is not being produced simultaneously. It has not been confirmed yet.” 

However, a media official said, “It is true that Season 2 and Season 3 were filmed at the same time. Strictly speaking, it is the same as filming a long story and releasing it in Seasons 2 and 3.” Only time will tell whether or not two seasons will be released back-to-back.

Meanwhile, the Season 2 cast includes Lee Jung-Jae, Lee Byung-Hun, Gong Yoo, and Wi Ha-Joon. The new members are Yim Si-Wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Gyu-Young, Park Sung-Hoon, Jo Yu-Ri, Yang Dong-Geun, Kang Ae-Sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-Uk, Choi Seung-Hyun, Roh Jae-Won, and Won Ji-An.

The synopsis of Squid Game reads, “Hundreds of cash-strapped players accept a strange invitation to compete in children’s games. Inside, a tempting prize awaits — with deadly high stakes.” At the end of season 1, Jung-Jae’s character Gi-Hun won a whopping prize money of 45.6 billion won. Season 2 will see his return to the survival game.

Meanwhile, Season 1 of Squid Game is currently available to stream on Netflix.
