BTS‘ song “Spring Day” is undoubtedly the ultimate comfort song for ARMYs. The 2017 track has gotten its due recognition from critics and fans alike. The song remains at the top of the music charts even years after its release. But the song comes with a mystery, as the K-pop singer has never fully disclosed what the song is about.
“Spring Day” returned to ARMY discourse on February 8, 2024, after a new feature titled ‘Revisiting Spring Day’ was shared on the music label’s platform, Weverse. The newest feature celebrates the song’s seventh anniversary.
Emotional fans took to X to discuss the most important message of the song, which says, “Spring Day will never end.” Fittingly, BTS concludes the song by urging listeners to “Please Stay.”
ARMYs discuss true meaning behind BTS ‘Spring Day’
Co-written by BTS members and chart-topping songwriters RM and Suga, alongside Pdogg and others, the true meaning of Spring Day is like an open secret to fans. Many believe the song is about the tragic Seoul Ferry incident in April 2014.
But above all, everyone agrees that Spring Day is a healing balm for those experiencing loss of any kind. It is a prayer for those in grief, and BTS member Suga revealed his thoughts behind the song, which also came from a story of personal loss.
Suga divulged in BTS’ Book Beyond The Story: “I just felt really bad about that friend. I really wanted to see him, but I couldn’t.”
In “Spring Day,” he wrote, thinking of that friend, “Yes, I hate you/You left, but I never forgot you even for a day/To be honest, I miss you, but I’m already going to erase you/I hate you.”
Loss is difficult to cope with, and BTS chose to immortalize the yearning to get back to the past by singing almost in a prayer-like tone, “Please stay,” repeated throughout.
A fan summarized the significance of Spring Day, posting, “Spring Day is a prayer for everyone who disappeared along the way and the purest form of consolation for all those who survived.”
Be it the personal loss or a collective loss that BTS originally implied in the song, it has a new meaning for each fan who discovered the song when they needed it the most.
