2019 was a great year for movies: Avengers: Endgame brought Marvel’s 22 film arc to a close, The Irishman taught us that boring films can still be fantastic, and Jojo Rabbit reminded us that Hitler still sucks. Unfortunately for 2019, every year is a great year for movies. With every discarded calendar comes another looking to top the spectacle, intimacy, and creativity of that which preceded it. That being said, there’s a lot to look forward to in 2020.

20. A Quiet Place: Part II
The upcoming sequel to 2018's A Quiet Place sees John Krasinski reprise his writing and directorial duties (but not his role) while Emily Blunt and company return as the Abbott family. Accompanied by a mysterious stranger, the family continues to fight for survival in a world overrun by sound-hunting monsters. It is set to release on March 20, 2020.
19. The French Dispatch
Celebrated filmmaker Wes Anderson returns with this anthology of three tales centered around the outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional mid-20th-century French city. The film features many Anderson regulars including Frances McDormand, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Saoirse Ronan, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman and Bob Balaban.

18. Bad Boys for Life
The third film in the Bad Boys franchise reunites Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett respectively for the first time in 17 years. It is set to release on January 17, 2020.
17. Fast & Furious 9
Fast & Furious 9 reunites Justin Lin ( Fast & Furious, Fast Five, and Fast & Furious 6 ) with the franchise in an entry that sees the bulk of the original cast starring as well as newcomers John Cena, Cardi B, Michael Rooker, Finn Cole, and Keanu Reeves himself. It peels into theaters on May 22, 2020.
16. Halloween Kills
2018's Halloween brought the iconic slasher franchise back to its roots (serving as a direct sequel to the 1978 original) and returning Jamie Lee Curtis to the role of Laurie Strode. Halloween Kills will continue the "adventures" of Michael Meyers and company on October 16, 2020.
15. West Side Story
The highly-anticipated, Steven Spielberg-directed, adaptation of West Side Story , about two teenagers (stuck in the middle of two rival street gangs) falling in love in 1950s New York City is set to release on December 18, 2020.
14. Coming 2 America
Serving as a sequel the first film, Coming 2 America will see Eddie Murphy reprise his role as Prince/King Akeem Joffer who finds out he has a son in Queens. It is set to release on December 18, 2020.
13. Birds of Prey
Margot Robbie returns in her now iconic role as Harley Quinn. Fresh off a breakup with the Joker, she aims to redefine herself as well as her role in Gotham city (with a little help from her friends). Birds of Prey releases on February 7, 2020.
12. Top Gun: Maverick
Top Gun: Maverick sees Tom Cruise again as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell as he mentors a new generation of fighter pilots and rides another Kawasaki Ninja (presumably). The film is set to release on June 25, 2020.
11. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
This third installment in the core Conjuring films will feature Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as the investigate a murderer's claim of demonic possession. It will grace the screen on September 11, 2020.
10. Tenet
Christopher Nolan is back with another original sci-fi brainteaser. This one follows John David Washington as a secret agent who is tasked with preventing World War III... with a time travel twist. Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh co-star.
9. No Time to Die
No Time to Die will be Daniel Craig's final outing as 007. Where the character goes from there is anyone's guess; however, this film will no doubt set the franchise up for whatever comes next. Prepare for the end of James Bond as we know him on April 8, 2020.
8. Godzilla vs. Kong
In the culmination of the monster-verse, Godzilla and King Kong will square off in an epic battle for dominance as humanity deals with the two's destructive existence. The battle begins on November 20, 2020.
7. Ghostbusters: Afterlife
Ignoring 2016's lackluster Ghostbusters , Ghostbusters: Afterlife will serve as a sequel to the original two films while simultaneously adopting a new look and feel. It will hit theaters on July 10, 2020.
6. Last Night in Soho
The upcoming psychological horror film directed by the inventive Edgar Wright will explore twists and time travel in a plot uniquely its own. It stars Terrence Stamp, Matt Smith, and Anya-Taylor-Joy—releasing September 25, 2020.
5. Black Widow
After her demise in Avengers: Endgame , Black Widow will see Scarlett Johansson reprise her role in a prequel that will also see the return of Tony Stark (and a handful of other characters from the comics). It will kick off Phase 4 of the MCU on May 1, 2020.
4. Wonder Woman 1984
The sequel to arguably the DCEU's best film (Wonder Woman ) will not only see Gal Gadot reprise her titular role but Chris Pine as her love interest...in an entirely different decade. Find out how on June 5, 2020.
3. Bill & Ted Face the Music
After 29 years, time-traveling musicians, Bill and Ted will once again be tasked with saving the universe. See Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter reprise their roles on August 21, 2020.
2. Eternals
Marvel's game-changing Phase 4 film about a group of immortal (kind of) humanoids tasked with defending earth is set to redefine the MCU. It's star-studded cast includes Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Lia McHugh, Salma Hayek, Don Lee, Barry Keoghan, Gemma Chan and Kit Harington. They will appear on screen November 6, 2020.
1. Dune
Not the one starring Kyle MacLachlan. This new adaptation of Frank Herbert's source material by director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival) will be the first of two parts. Its ensemble cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem.
