Edge of Tomorrow Sequel Moves Forward at Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. moves forward on Edge of Tomorrow sequel

It’s looking like Edge of Tomorrow will be getting a sequel. According to Deadline, writer Matthew Robinson (The Invention Of Lying, Jerk) pitched a take and has been brought on to write the script for what director Doug Liman has previously said could be titled Live Die Repeat and Repeat.

At this point, the studio wants to bring back director Liman along with stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, who played soldiers amidst a war against vicious alien invaders overseas. However, apparently neither Blunt nor Cruise will commit to the project until they see a script to their liking, which Liman will develop with Robinson.

This isn’t the first time the studio has kicked around a sequel to the time-bending tale. Back in 2016, writers Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse were enlisted to pen a script, though the production ultimately didn’t come to fruition.

Erwin Stoff, Tom Lassally and Masi Oka will produce Live Die Repeat and Repeat, with Hisashi Sasaki serving as executive producer.

Liman’s Edge of Tomorrow brought in just north of $100 million at the domestic box office, and cleared $370 million worldwide. The film also starred Bill Paxton, Noah Taylor, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, Franz Drameh, Masayoshi Haneda and Tony Way. The movie was based on the acclaimed novel All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.
