Director Adrian Lyne is stepping back behind the camera to direct a big-screen adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s Deep Water. And according to Deadline, Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas are in talks to star in the film.
The film centers on Vic and Melinda Van Allen (Affleck and de Armas) described as “an attractive young married couple whose mind games with each other take a twisted turn when people around them start turning up dead. The couple staves off divorce in a loveless marriage by allowing each to take lovers, but it becomes messy as Highsmith exposed the surface facade of American suburban life.”

Zack Helm (Stranger Than Fiction) and Sam Levinson (Euphoria) wrote the script, while Garrett Basch and Steven Zaillian will serve as producers alongside Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady, Anthony Katagas and Ben Forkner; Arnon Milchan is also producing with a plan to commence filming in November.
Lyne last directed the 2002 drama Unfaithful, starring Diane Lane and Richard Gere, and made a reputation with steamy erotic films such as Indecent Proposal, Fatal Attraction, and 9 1/2 Weeks. Per the report, he showed interest in Deep Water in 2013, but couldn’t pull the piece together until now.
Affleck was last seen in the Netflix drama Triple Frontier. He’ll next be seen reprising his character Holden McNeil in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, and currently has Torrance, The Last Thing He Wanted, Ghost Army, Witness for the Prosecution, and a sequel to The Accountant on his to-do list.

De Armas has seen her career explode thanks to gigs in high-profile films such as Blade Runner 2049. The actress is slated to be the next Bond girl in the yet-to-be-titled James Bond film, and also has roles in Sergio, The Informer, Wasp Network, Knives Out, The Night Clerk, and Blonde.
