The Suicide Squad Adds Nathan Fillion To the Cast

Director James Gunn and actor Nathan Fillion have a long history together. And their collaboration will continue on Gunn’s next film, The Suicide Squad. Via Deadline, Fillion has been signed for an undisclosed role in The Suicide Squad. Deadline’s report characterizes Fillion as “starring in in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad;” which suggests that his new part is more than a cameo.

Fillion is best known among genre fans for his starring role as Malcolm Reynolds on Firefly and Serenity. He also co-starred in Con Man alongside his fellow Firefly veteran, Alan Tudyk. Additionally, Fillion headlined Castle for eight seasons on ABC and currently stars in The Rookie.

Gunn previously cast Fillion in Slither and Super. Fillion also had a vocal cameo as an alien prison inmate in Guardians of the Galaxy. Gunn intended to have an image of Fillion appear as Simon Williams/Wonder Man in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. But that scene didn’t make the final cut of the movie.

Earlier in the weekend, Deadline also broke the story about Steve Agee portraying King Shark in The Suicide Squad.  Agee also appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as Gef, one of the Ravagers.

Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, and Jai Courtney are all reprising their roles for The Suicide Squad. Margot Robbie is also likely to return as Harley Quinn. Idris Elba is leading the newcomers, including David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man and Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher.
